Your Open Word e-Devotional for November 25th

Hello ,

When researchers dredged up a grizzled-looking quahog, a deep-sea clam off the coast of Iceland in 2006, they tossed it in a freezer for future study. Oops. They ended up killing Ming the Mollusk (yes, that's what they named the creature).

After further examination by experts, it was determined that the now-dead animal was something quite special. In fact, at the time it was killed, it ranked as the oldest known living creature in the world. The best recent estimate, publicized last week, places the creature's birth year in 1499-well over 500 years old.

It's easy for remarkable things to be cast aside because of their non-descript appearance, isn't it? In this case, it was an unimpressive looking clam ... that was born when Henry VIII was still alive.*

How quickly we humans often cast aside something that doesn't look that impressive without even thinking about it.

Take the Bible for example; most bibles look quite unimpressive from all appearances.  Many have covers of black or brown, and there are usually no "marketing copy" quotes on the outside cover from satisfied users.  Look inside the book however; read from the pages and take what you read to heart, and this book can change your life.

Let's be careful how we treat special things.  Let me challenge you to get out your bible and open it up today, and tomorrow, and the next day....It really CAN make a difference!

Have a great day and God bless!
