Hello ,

The 1982 smash hit movie called "Tootsie" starred Actor Dustin Hoffman an unemployed actor with a reputation for being difficult, who disguises himself as a woman in order to land a role in a soap opera.

Dustin recently talked about the epiphany that he had AFTER they dressed him up as a woman, and he thought about whether or not he would ever talk to a woman that looked like him if he were to meet her.  Have a look at the following video clip:

Here's the transcript of part of Hoffman explaining:

'Now you have me looking like a woman, now make me beautiful.' I thought I should be beautiful if I was going to be a woman, I would want to be as beautiful as possible."

"It was at that moment I had an epiphany, and I went home and started crying," Hoffman explained in the segment. "Talking to my wife, I said I have to make this picture, and she said, 'Why?' And I said, 'Because I think I am an interesting woman when I look at myself on screen. And I know that if I met myself at a party, I would never talk to that character because she doesn't fulfill physically the demands that we're brought up to think women have to have in order to ask them out.' She says, 'What are you saying?' And I said, 'There's too many interesting women I have...not had the experience to know in this life because I have been brainwashed.' That was never a comedy for me."

Mr. Hoffman touches on something that is so deeply connected to us as human beings: our tendency to judge people based on how they look, how they're dressed, and who we believe them to be.

You don't have to like the movie "Tootsie," and you don't have to recommend it to your friends, but I think we can reach some agreement together, that Dustin Hoffman discovered something that more Christians would do well to understand:  That judging someone based on how they look is wrong.

Over and over again we're told to be careful about how we judge others.  Those that we come in contact with are God's creation, and they deserve respect simply because of that fact.

Have a great day and God bless!
