Your Open Word e-Devotional for August 24th

Dear

I can almost picture it in my mind; my dear mother kneeling by her bedside at night, pouring her heart out to her Heavenly Father about her lost boy.  She performed that prayer ritual for years and years while I spent my time selfishly seeking my own way.

  • She prayed for me when she was tired.
  • She prayed for me when she may not have felt like praying.
  • She prayed for me when I was clearly going my own way.
  • She prayed for me when it may have seemed like her prayers weren't making it past the ceiling.

But...she prayed!

She kept praying!

She never stopped!

Someone reading this may know exactly what I am talking about.  Perhaps you have someone in your own life who you love desperately.  It may be someone who doesn't know the Lord, or perhaps...they knew Him once, but they left Him to pursue something else in life.  It may be a father, a mother, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, or a friend. You love them, but it seems that no matter how hard you pray, nothing ever seems to happen.

Don't Stop Praying!

DO NOT STOP!

The very idea that I have a relationship with Jesus Christ causes me to shake my head in disbelief some days.  He has done SO MUCH for me and my family.  I'm not what I ought to be, but thank God I'm not what I used to be! I attribute my mother's prayers with adding great value to my conversion experience.

There were certainly others that were praying for me, but I believe that my mother's intercession on behalf of her youngest son made a huge difference in the direction that my life took.

If you have a prodigal in your life, don't give up!  They may be closer to making a decision for Jesus than you realize.

Have a great day and God bless!
