Your Open Word e-Devotional for April 9th

Published: Wed, 04/09/14

Hello ,

At about 3:30 p.m. this afternoon I will make my way through the line at the terminal, remove my belt and shoes, pull the change and wallet out of my pocket, and hand the TSA security officer my paperwork. It's what we have to do at the airport these days, and I have to go through the "security line slog" just like everyone else.

I'm flying out to be with my mother who is recuperating from her surgery, so I'm more than willing to go through the security checkpoints in exchange for the time saved be flying.  Her home is more than 1600 miles away.  A trip in an automobile would take more than 25 hours of straight driving (without any stops), flight time will be a total of 6 hours (including a 1.5hour layover).

When I'm about to embark on a trip like this, my mind travels to a passage of scripture:

But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end.  Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase." Daniel 12:4

Until just less than 200 hundred years ago, people were "running to and fro" the way they always had been; they were walking or riding on a beast of burden.  To actually think that we could travel 1600 miles in mere hours is an amazing thing.

I believe that we are living in a time like no other.  I believe that Jesus is coming back very soon.  He promised it, and if His word is true (and I believe that it is),  I can't help but believe that it's not far away.

Have a great day and God bless!
