In each of us is a deep need to know that we can be forgiven. Our hearts cry out for someone who can accomplish for us, what we cannot do for ourselves. If the scriptures are correct (and I believe that they are), we can do nothing to lift ourselves out of the mire of sinfulness. Picture a man who can't swim saving himself from drowning. As much as he wanted to, it just couldn't be done.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
There it is; both of our greatest needs, addressed in one rock-solid verse. Is there anything that could give us more assurance for each new day? God is faithful.
