Your Open Word e-Devotional for December 18th

Hello ,

"If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator; If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist; If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist; If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer; But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior."  Source Unknown

As I pondered the above quote it struck me with amazing clarity; Christ's ONLY reason for coming to planet earth was to save you and I.

-  He didn't come to make a name for Himself.  It happened, but it wasn't His goal to become famous.

- He didn't come to put His mark on humanity by making a significant contribution in the area of science.  He had already made everything during creation week, thousands of years before that.

-  He didn't come to enjoy a cool career and accumulate stuff.  He was a man of sorrows, and his heart ached when He watched the rich young ruler walk away because of his wealth and possessions.

-  He didn't come to entertain, or be entertained. Although His stories were thoughts provoking, and He found joy in the faces of children who sat on His lap, He wouldn't have been found purchasing a widescreen at the local "Best Buy" if there had been one in town.

His one purpose?  To save!

The very heart of His life, ministry, and death was to selflessly show mankind that heaven loved us more than we could possibly grasp, and to save those who would accept that fact;  to rescue those who would reach out their feeble hands and take hold of His strong ones, and allow Him to pull them out of the messy, sinful mire that they were sinking in.  God is love, and love always does what it must.

May these thoughts that God loves us this much bring focus, clarity, and purpose during this season.  May we return this love to Him, by showing it to others!

Have a great day and God bless!
