Hello ,
As Zacharias is performing the offering of incense something amazing takes place. Standing on the right side of the alter of incense (the right side was often the position of honor,) is an angel of the Lord. Later (in verse 19,) we learn that this is the angel Gabriel who has come to share incredible news with the old priest. The scriptures tell us that Zacharias
was afraid.
What Gabriel shared next must have "rocked" the old man's world! "Zacharias, your prayer has been heard; and Elizabeth is going to have a baby."
Have you ever prayed for something,
only to be disheartened because it appears that God is not going to answer it with a "yes?" This must have been how Zacharias and Elizabeth felt after years and years of prayer to God for a child. Now, Gabriel is telling the old priest that his wife (who is also old,) is going to have a baby. Not only this, but the baby will be special, ordained by God to do something more wonderful than any baby before it. This baby will grow to be a man, and will proclaim the arrival of
the Messiah.
Have you ever been shocked by something that God is doing in your life? Zacharias is flabbergasted!
This story of Zacharias and Elizabeth reminds us that with God, nothing is
impossible. He is the God of the universe. In a world where very little is certain, we serve a "possible" God!
Tomorrow, we'll explore the ramifications of faith, and why its important to believe God when He says He'll do something in our lives.
Have a great day and God bless!
