Hello ,
Prophecy is an amazing thing, and in reading today's scripture passage in Luke 2:1-5 we see a prophecy unfolding right before our eyes. At first glance we may
not realize that fact, but it exists nonetheless.
In Luke 1:26, we are told that the angel Gabriel was sent to Nazareth to give the tidings to Mary, who was espoused to Joseph, that she would give birth to the Messiah. But in today's passage, we see the young couple making their way to Bethlehem, and Mary is "great" with
child...she's heavily pregnant! How many women do you know who want to travel to another place to have their children, instead of having it in their current city of dwelling?
Here's what I personally find so fascinating; this entire situation has already been prophesied about in the book of Micah, years before Mary and Joseph ever made
this journey to Bethlehem. Have a look at the following verse: Micah 5:2
Mary and Joseph are making a prophetic journey, and in
our imagination we can see them making their way to Bethlehem, the city of David. Joseph, helping his mate Mary who is "great with child," as together they trudge wearily toward an event that would forever change the scope of humanity for all of eternity.
Have a great day and God bless!
