Your Open Word e-Devotional for October 20th

Published: Fri, 10/20/17

Hello ,

I apologize for this e-Devotional being so late.  I’m just getting back in the groove today after traveling to New York to help clean out my parent’s estate and I’ve been straight out with busy-ness over the past two weeks.  Add to that, the technical difficulties that I’ve been experiencing with my e-devotional broadcaster, and So many other things on my schedule, and it’s a recipe for tardiness.

If there’s one things I’ve learned in my time here on earth, it is the idea that we honestly don’t have control over so many things in our schedules. We try, but we often encounter unforeseen issues that we couldn’t plan for.

Fact is, none of us can make solid plans for tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year.  We can try, but life often throws us “curve balls” that we didn’t anticipate.  It could be a health issue, a financial challenge, or a relational conflict that arises in our lives, but life can be very unpredictable and (at times) unstable.

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”  James 4:13-15  ESV

My personality craves the predictable, the stable, and the foreseeable, but it has been proven to me repeatedly that I am not afforded those luxuries while I travel through this life. The only real control that I have, is to WHOM I’m going to give the control over to.

In the shadow of the Almighty is the only place that I can place myself if I want consistency, and it’s the very best place to be!

Have a great day and GOD bless!
