Often, Christians actually believe that if they have faith, that nothing negative will befall them. This isn't reality, and believing this way can cause us to lose our faith when something terrible DOES happen to us.
God did not promise us a rose garden, but He did promise that He would be near when we ran into some thorns. It's a wonderful promise to contemplate on today and every day.
'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' Isaiah 41:10 (NASB)
