Hello ,
Our daughter Maddie (that's her promotional photo above), was having a rough week at college. She has a full class load, works full time, and has been one of the lead actresses in a
southern gospel play called Jubilee Road. Two weeks ago she was beginning to feel the strain of being pulled in so many directions.
I could see the anxiety on her face as we video chatted together. "Dad, I'm not sure how much more of this I can take," she told me. My heart went out to my little girl, but I couldn't
tell her what was coming that would change her viewpoint.
My wife and I were planning a surprise trip (more than 500 miles away from our home) to visit her and watch her perform. I was able to get in touch with one of her best college buddies, and we waited at a local coffee shop for her friend to bring her there. Maddie had no
idea that we would be sitting there when she showed up. To say that it was a surprise would have been an understatement.
She told me later, that her outlook became 1000 times more positive when she knew that we were there for her. I was thankful that we made the trip.
Everyone needs a soft place to land. Every day we meet people who are struggling, challenged, and anxious about all that life is throwing at them. Even a smile can help them to have a better day. It may not be as much of a surprise as my daughter experienced, but it can make a difference.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
Have a great day and God bless!
