Your Open Word e-Devotional for March 14th

Hello ,

This past Sunday morning, it was snowing and blowing in Aberdeen, SD where my son Michael and I were attending a men's retreat for the weekend. We had intended to make our way home later in the morning, but with the wind blowing fiercely, and the snow accumulating, we opted for another night's stay at the hotel.

We drove around the city of Aberdeen on Sunday looking for something to eat, and the snow was absolutely piling up around town. We saw a number of vehicles driving sideways, attempting to get home from attending churches that morning. The weather was not something that anyone should have been out in, but we were hungry...and we have a four wheel drive SUV.

On Monday morning, we packed our things into our little Toyota Rav4, said our prayers for safe travel, and headed out of town. The roads were now clear, but it was obvious that the city had received a significant snowfall. "I'm glad we stayed last night; it would've been a horrible ride home" I thought to myself.

I was in for a huge surprise!

About five miles out of town, and the snow accumulations began to significantly decrease in depth...and by the time we reached the point of being 20 miles away from the city, there was just a light dusting on the areas we were driving through. I was stunned.  We could have made it home the day before. We only would've had to drive a short distance, and the roads would've been completely clear on our route.

"This is what it's like for someone who is spiritually stuck in the presence of challenges that they cannot see past," I pondered to myself as we drove.

Have you ever been there?

Have you ever felt like you couldn't possibly get out of the spiritual quagmire that you were in?  Stuck? Bogged down in the reality of your present spiritual state?

Jesus knows the way.

Sometimes it's almost more than we can bear when we attempt to try and think past our current situation...but Jesus tells us through His word to press forward with Him by our sides. The road is not always smooth and free of challenging spots, but He has promised to stay with us every step of the way.

"and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  Matthew 28:20

I'm safe and sound back at my home now.  I'm glad to be here...but I could've arrived here a day earlier if I had just driven a little farther down the road!

Have a great day and God bless!
