Your Open Word e-Devotional for March 10th

Hello ,

Today's Scripture:  1 John 3:16-18

In Christianity, talk is cheap.  It's a simple thing to wear WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) t-shirts, apply a "Honk if you Love Jesus" bumper sticker on our vehicle, and sing praise songs on the weekend.  It's quite another thing to actually do something without thinking, "what's in it for me?"

A mother once approached Napoleon seeking a pardon for her son. The emperor replied that the young man had committed a certain offense twice and justice demanded death.

"But I don't ask for justice," the mother explained. "I plead for mercy."

"But your son does not deserve mercy," Napoleon replied.

"Sir," the woman cried, "it would not be mercy if he deserved it, and mercy is all I ask for."

"Well, then," the emperor said, "I will have mercy." And he spared the woman's son.

A real Christian knows that showing mercy has absolutely nothing to do with the person that we're showing mercy towards.  Being kind, considerate, and truly Christ-like with others takes a relationship with God that is deep and abiding.  Anyone can "honk!"

Have a great day and God bless!
