Your Open Word e-Devotional for November 16th

Hello ,

The young lady in the picture above is my middle daughter Madeleine.  Isn't she beautiful?  She is away at a boarding school (about 240 miles from us), and yesterday we got some exciting news.  She's in a choir at the school and they travel around to various destinations in North and South Dakota on the weekends. Yesterday she was traveling with a busload of kids through a city that was 55 miles from our home.

We loaded up the family mini-van and headed towards the rest stop where they would be re-fueling on their way through the city.  We saw her for a grand total of about 18 minutes, handed her a sub sandwich that we'd purchased for her, and hugged her for as long as we could before she re-boarded the bus and continued on her way.

What would cause us to travel a total of 110 miles (round trip) to go and see our middle kid for 18 minutes?  I mean, think about it...we traveled about 6 miles for every minute that we got to spend with her.  We did it (and would gladly do it again), because of our great love for this special girl of ours.  The trip wasn't even a small inconvenience...because we got to spend time with her face to face.

I thought about that, and it caused me to smile as I mulled over the reasons that Jesus made an even longer trip from heaven to earth.  Oh, how He loves you and me!

Have a great day and God bless!
