Hello ,
Last week I sent you an urgent prayer request for a young lady named Carla who had been shot. I have had a number of inquiries as to who she is doing. I received a letter from her father-in-law, Yves Monnier. Here it is in its entirety:
|
It’s 1:00 a.m. and Carla is peacefully sleeping. It’s a well-deserved sleep because yesterday was a busy day for her. First, she went outside for the first time since the attack. You should have seen her smile. And that smile grew even bigger when she was reunited with her little dog Brody (see photo). Then in the evening, she was transferred to a rehab facility. Carla has been anxiously waiting for this moment because she’s eager to start the
rest of her life.
In my updates, I’ve focused on Carla and rightfully so. However, let me express some thoughts about her other half: Daniel, my son. This has been a gut-wrenching nightmare for him. When almost four years ago Dano, as I lovingly call him, pledged to Carla to be there in the good and bad days, never did he expect the bad days to be anything like this. I’ve watched my boy sob as I have never seen him cry. That evil bullet didn’t just strike Carla, it also struck Dano. The
first few days he struggled to watch the love of his life squirm in pain not knowing if she would live. In spite of it all, he kept the faith and plowed on. Dano has been a man for many years, however, over the last two weeks he’s really become a man. He’s matured well beyond his years and has handled things like a man of God. I couldn’t be more proud of my Dano.
Someone asked me whether Carla’s parents and family have been here since not much has been said about them. Wrong question. The
right question should have been, “Has Carla’s father-in-law been around?”, because they’ve been here much more than me. Eugene and Sandy Bartlett and their two other children, Chelsea and Casey (Carla’s twin), rushed from California and North Dakota and were here within hours of her being taken to the hospital. They’ve been at Carla’s bedside ever since. She’s blessed to have an absolutely amazing family. Cheryl and I simply try to be of support to Carla, Daniel, and the Bartletts. Our support,
among other things, involves spending nights at the hospital so that Daniel and the Bartlett family can sleep. For the time being, we’ve all made a commitment that Carla will not be left alone.
Since Carla’s anointing, I’ve had time to reflect on the miracles that we’ve experienced so far. Here are the first seven: 1. She’s alive! 2. Every day Carla feels better than the previous. 3. She’s in rehab. We’re all very excited about that. 4. Carla has such a positive
disposition. 5. Her faith is stronger than ever. 6. To date, the Gofundme campaign has raised over $86,000. Daniel and Carla are so grateful for the help in their time of need. 7. The vile act to take a life has backfired. Instead of taking a life it’s given life to so many who had lost hope and faith. I’m extremely moved by the many emails and messages I’ve received that tell me that Carla’s courage has given them renewed faith in God.
When this whole tragic ordeal started, I
rushed to Florida to be a blessing and support to Carla and Daniel. Little did I realize that in reality the flow of support and the blessings would go the other way, my way. She’s the one who has so blessed my life–so enriched it. I’m so thankful for Carla, my sweet daughter-in-law. God bless you, Yves

Open Word subscriber family, thank-you so much for your continued prayers for this young lady. I also have yet another prayer request for you to lift up today. It was sent to me by a pastoral colleagues wife early this morning. Here is her message to me:
"PRAYER WARRIORS NEEDED: Hey, can you help me get a prayer chain going for Michael Bass's little boy named Dakota MIller? He's only an 18 month old baby! He got a hold of a nail gun. They
had to "life-flight" him. He shot himself and is on life-support. Please forward this to everyone you can please!"
Once again, thank-you for lifting up these requests to our Heavenly Father. If you should have some prayer requests in your world, please don't hesitate to contact me personally by e-mail. I will lift them up on your behalf. I do my
level best to personally answer all e-mails that arrive in my inbox. I believe in the power of prayer, and I will lift your requests heavenward.
Have a great day and God bless!
