Hello ,
My heart is heavy today. I have a friend and former colleague in ministry who is struggling to make sense of why his twin sister was randomly shot a few weeks ago.
I'm going to re-print a message that I received from Carla's father-in-law last evening. It explains more of this tragedy in detail:

It’s already been 12 days since Carla was senselessly shot. I can assure you that this is nothing like the movies where the hero gets shot and simply hobbles on. When Carla, our hero, was rushed to the emergency trauma center she was fighting for her life. It’s often well after things happen that you hear the rest of the story. The surgeon who operated on Carla that night recently admitted to us that he really wasn’t sure she would survive. She has survived and
every day she wakes up we thank the Lord that Carla is with us. And, we thank YOU for your faithful prayers on behalf of Carla. This morning I was with Carla from midnight to 6:00 a.m. She couldn’t sleep so she asked me to read from the Bible out loud (I guess she must have heard that I put people to sleep when I talk). So, I read from the gospel of Matthew, the first 10 chapters. Such uplifting words! When I stopped, Carla turned to me and exclaimed that she’s beginning
to grasp the depth of Jesus’ love for mankind. And then she added, “I feel that because of my experience I will be able to better help other people.” Wow! Carla is already thinking of the impact she can have on other people. She’s a better person than me because 12 days after being shot I think I would be thinking about catching the scumbags who did this. Then Carla whispered, “Yves, I want to be anointed.” Carla and Daniel, whose hands you see in the photo,
believe in the power of prayer and in the potent promise found in James 5:13-15: “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray… Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” The anointing will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at 4:45 p.m. (Eastern). Wherever you are and whatever you are doing I
invite you to pause and join us in prayer for Carla. I’m hoping that hundreds and maybe even thousands will link with heaven in prayers of intercession for this wonderful young lady. The more the better! What are we praying for? For God to make Carla whole which implies body AND mind. We are praying for God to restore Carla’s body. Right now she’s fighting infections and her body is trying to adjust functioning without some organs or parts of organs. In addition to that, she’s
dealing with a spinal cord injury. All of these things are huge. And then let’s not forget her mind. Even though she has such a positive outlook, I know that the traumatic event she went through will leave some mental scars. We’re praying for God’s perfect and wonderful will to be done. |

I believe the picture above is of Carla and her father-in-law clasping hands at her bedside.
I would like to ask you to join me in prayer today as they anoint Carla according to James 5:14
The anointing service will be taking place today (Wednesday) at 4:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and I would like to request that our faithful Open Word e-Devotional Family pauses together (across the miles) for a moment of silent prayer as they anoint this young lady at that time.
I believe strongly in the power of prayer, and I invite you to join me as we lift her and her family
heavenward to the Great Physician.
Thank-you for your consideration!
Pastor Mike / The Open Word
P.S. Please share this prayer request with all of your friends and family who might be willing to join us in prayer this afternoon. Our God is an awesome God, and we know that He can do miracles according to his perfect will. Thank-you!
