Hello ,
I once heard a story about an Amish farmer who bought a new pair of overalls. Of course, the Amish are famous for their simplicity and trying to avoid pride. As he put on his new overalls and looked in the
mirror, he said, "Oh, this will never do! I'll be proud in these!" So he removed the new overalls and put on the patched, worn, and dirty ones. He stood again in front of the mirror and said, "Ahh, you'd look good in anything!"
I had to chuckle at this story because what the farmer did was so incredibly human. People are often masters
at fooling themselves into believing something that just isn't true. They tell themselves, "I don't gossip." Then they frame their conversations about someone else as "being concerned." They are vocal about the idea that, "I don't think I'm any better than anyone else." Then they go about trying to prove that they are better by the enormous sums of money that they spend on frivolous material things that scream "Look at me!"
Let's remember what the scriptures say. The human heart is "wicked and deceitful above all things," and we need help everyday to be the kind of people that God designed us to be. Without Him we are nothing.
Have a great day and God bless!
