Hello ,
I was dismayed by a quote
that I read a few years ago from George H. Gallup. Here it is:
"There's little difference in ethical behavior between the churched and the unchurched. There's as much pilferage and dishonesty among the churched as the unchurched. And I'm afraid that applies pretty much across the board: Religion, per se, is not really
life changing. People cite it as important, for instance, in overcoming depression--but it doesn't have primacy in determining behavior."
After much thought and meditation, I tend to agree with Mr. Gallup on at least one portion of his quote. "Religion, per se, is not really life changing."
He's absolutely right. Religion doesn't change people's lives, and a mere "going through the motions" in the religious realm will not make you a Christian, anymore than going into a gymnasium will make you an athlete.
It is Christ Who changes the heart, the attitude, and the behavior. Let's remember that when we think we rely on our "moral compass" to do what is right.
Have a great day and God bless!
