"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
I stumbled across the following quote from JFK on Sunday, and it literally jumped off the computer screen at me. It reminded me of the scripture passage that I'm sharing with you today.
"Efforts & courage are not enough without purpose & direction." John Fitzgerald Kennedy
In our world, we are bombarded with directions about achieving what we really want. Here is just a sample list of things that the world claims will help us to be fulfilled in our endeavors:
- Try harder
- Think positively
- Change your career
- Re-invent yourself
- Become educated
- Change your attitude
- Open your mind
- Step out of your comfort zone
There are many, many more items that could be added to the list.
I'm not knocking these things.
There's nothing inherently wrong with trying harder, or thinking positively.
It's just not enough.
As Christians, nothing really gels for us until we do more than agree with the idea that God needs to direct our paths...every step of the way. Until we embrace it, it is little more than something else that needs to be added to "the list."
It is when we trust in God for everything (including direction, faith, and commitment), that life becomes more than a mere list of items to perform in order to obtain that illusive "happy place" in life.
"Lord, help me to understand Your will for me in every moment of each day. Guide my steps, and direct my paths. I give you permission to steer me in the right direction, because I've already proven over and over again that I'm not capable of doing that. Show me Your will...and then give me the strength to live it through Your grace, power, and mercy. Amen!"
