Hello ,
Neil Armstrong, the American astronaut who walked on the moon on July 21, 1969, died on Saturday, August 27th. What most people don't know, however, is that three days before Apollo 11 landed on the moon, William Safire, President Nixon's speechwriter, wrote a somber memo to Nixon's Chief of Staff, H. R. Haldeman.
The memo was titled "In The Event of a Moon Disaster." If the astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became stranded on the moon, President Nixon was supposed to read the memo to the American public. In part the memo reads, "Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace. These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their
recovery. But they also know there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice."
The astronauts put their lives on the line for the benefit of something that they believed in. Jesus did the same for us long ago. The difference is, He actually gave up His life in the process.
What an amazing God we serve, and what amazing love He has displayed through Christ! Let me challenge you to spend a few quiet moments contemplating this awesome gift today.
Have a great day and God bless!
