"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Galatians 6:9
It's the time of year (in our locale), for beginning to put our gardens in the ground. My family lives in an area that is known for its fertile oil. When we first moved here, I was unprepared for the kinds of yields that we would receive. I counted the number of tomatoes that I picked from just ONE tomato plant, the first year I had a garden here.
77 tomatoes from ONE plant.
As difficult as it may be to believe (and I was amazed as well), it's absolutely true! The dirt in our yard looks like black coffee grounds, and it produces amazing results. We've grown tomatoes, eggplant, corn, watermelon, and cantaloupe in an area that is known for its short summers and long cold snaps. We feel very blessed!
Not once however, have we picked corn a tomato vine. Nor have we reaped a harvest of eggplant from a pepper plant. It just doesn't happen.
It's important to remember that we can't pick what we do not plant. If nothing goes into the ground in an intentional way, we can't expect to reap something that we enjoy eating.
The same is true of spiritual things, and today's verse is very applicable. Sometimes we get weary, but the Bible tells us to NOT grow tired while doing good...because we reap what we sow.
Have a great day and God bless!
