We recently received the call that we had been waiting for from the postmaster in our town. The box that we had been anticipating had arrived from Germany. The large box contained, (among other things,) a Black Forest cuckoo clock that we had purchased in Rothenburg at one of the small, quaint shops that line the cobblestone streets.
It's a handsome clock with tiny dancers that come out and gently turn to the tune of "Edelweiss." We're quite enamored with it because it reminds us of all the fun and enjoyment we had when my wife and I traveled to Germany together.
The ornate little clock however, is rather finicky in the way that it works. We've only had it a little while, and already we are seeing the need to adjust and re-adjust some things that we didn't know about. I expect to be doing that for quite some time until we are able to finally say that the time is absolutely correct.
Owning this clock kind of reminds me of the Christian walk. From time to time we find our lives out of sync, out of step with what God would have for us. Have you ever had days like that; days when it seems like you're taking two steps forward and two steps back? It's enough to drive you, well, cuckoo. (Please pardon the lame attempt at humor.)
If you are feeling a little "out of sync" today, let me suggest a few things that can help you get back on track:
1. Recognize that God absolutely loves you right where you are. He loves you with an everlasting love, and nothing you can do will make Him love you more! Scripture
2. Realize that you are on a spiritual journey. Having a relationship with Jesus Christ is not an arrival, but a day-by-day, hand-in-hand walk with Him. He's not through with you yet. Scripture
3. God is faithful, and today is another day to partner with Christ. His mercy is new every morning, and He wants you to live a life that is full to over-flowing with blessings, peace, and a growing understanding of who He is. Scripture
Step-by-step, moment-by-moment, we can get back on track!
P.S. The picture above isn't the cuckoo clock that we eventually got...but I hope you get the idea. :)
