Years ago, I saw a clip from the movie "Schindler's List" that stopped me in my tracks. Seeing it again during the holiday season this time made an even greater impact on my heart.
In this scene, the main character is thanked by the Jews as they give him a ring to show their appreciation for saving them. As he is receiving his "thank-you" gift, it dawns on him that he could have saved even more people if he had been willing to part with more of the material possessions that he owned. It is a touching scene.
What an incredible reminder for each of us during the holiday season, that perhaps we need to re-focus our priorities about what we (and our families) think we "need" to have on Christmas morning! It gives me pause to remember that there are those who don't have as much as I have. A giving heart is a rare gift to the world.
