Part 7
Hello ,
“Do not be
overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
— Romans 12:21
In 1871, after the devastation of the Great Chicago Fire, thousands of buildings lay in ruins. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to ash. What followed was just as significant as
the destruction itself. Chicago didn’t simply clear the debris and leave empty space—it rebuilt, and it rebuilt differently. Stronger materials. Better planning. New structure. The city that emerged was not just restored—it was transformed.
Because clearing out is only step one. What you build in its place determines what comes
next.
That’s the principle behind spiritual renewal.
Over the past several days, you’ve identified things that needed to go—distractions, misplaced priorities, bitterness, compromise. And that matters. But if all you do is remove what’s wrong
without intentionally replacing it with what’s right, the space doesn’t stay empty. It gets filled again—often with the same patterns you just worked to remove.
Scripture consistently pairs removal with replacement.
- It’s not just “put off”—it’s “put
on.”
- Not just “stop”—but “start.”
- Not just “clear”—but “build.”
Romans 12:21 is direct: overcome evil with good. That means you don’t defeat what’s unhealthy by avoiding
it—you replace it with something stronger. So the question now is not just what you’ve removed—but what you are establishing.
- If you’ve cleared time—what are you giving your attention to now?
- If you’ve stepped away from unhealthy relationships or patterns—what are you building that is
stable and life-giving?
- If you’ve removed bitterness—what practices are reinforcing grace and steadiness?
-
Transformation is not passive. It’s structured. It’s intentional.
God doesn’t leave things empty—He fills, restores, and orders. But that process involves your participation. You choose what gets planted next.
Spring cleaning isn’t finished when the clutter is gone. It’s finished when what remains is aligned, purposeful, and able to sustain what comes next.
So today, don’t just focus on what’s been cleared.
Decide what you’re building.
