Part 5
Hello ,
“Therefore lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1
Not everything that slows you down is
sinful.
Some things are just…heavy.
In 1954, Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes—a barrier many believed was physically impossible. What most people don’t realize is how intentional his preparation was. He didn’t just
train harder—he trained smarter. He removed inefficiencies, studied pacing, refined his stride, and stripped away anything that didn’t serve the goal. Every ounce of unnecessary weight—physical or strategic—was addressed.
Because when you’re trying to run well, even small things matter. Hebrews makes an interesting distinction:
lay aside every weight, and the sin…
That means there are things in your life that may not be outright wrong—but they’re still holding you back.
- Habits that drain your time.
- Distractions that fracture your focus.
- Commitments you’ve taken on that were never meant for you to carry long-term.
The problem is, we rarely evaluate those things. If it’s not clearly “bad,” we assume it’s fine
to keep.
But over time, the accumulation adds up.
- You feel it in your energy.
- Your
clarity.
- Your ability to stay consistent.
What once felt manageable starts to feel heavy—not because life got harder, but because you’re carrying more than you were designed to.
Spring cleaning here requires honesty.
Not just asking, Is this wrong?
But asking, Is this necessary?
Is this helping me move forward—or just keeping me busy?
Because, you can be doing a lot…and still not be moving well. God hasn’t asked you to carry everything; and some of what you’ve picked up along the way may have made sense in a different season—but it doesn’t belong in this one.
If you’re
feeling slowed down, it may not be because you need more discipline. It may be because there’s something you need to put down.
