Hello ,
In 1857, New York City was restless. The economy had crashed, businesses were folding, and fear hung thick in the air. Amid the
chaos, a quiet man named Jeremiah Lanphier felt God stirring his heart.
He wasn’t a preacher or politician — just a businessman who loved Jesus and believed prayer could change more than policies or profits.
Lanphier printed a few flyers and passed them around lower Manhattan. They read:
“Prayer meeting — Wednesday noon hour. All welcome.”
When the first
meeting came, six people showed up. Six. Not exactly a movement. But Jeremiah prayed anyway. The next week, there were 14. The week after, 23.
Then something began to shift. The stock market continued to crumble, and desperation spread — yet so did prayer. Within six months, more than 10,000 people were gathering daily in New York to
pray. Within two years, that spark became a nationwide revival that historians say brought over one million people to faith in Christ.
They called it The Businessmen’s Revival. It didn’t start in a church or with a microphone. It started with a man who refused to underestimate what could happen when one person kneels before
God.
Scripture says, “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face…then will I hear from heaven.” —
2 Chronicles 7:14.
Lanphier’s story reminds us that God doesn’t wait for the perfect crowd before He moves — He looks for the willing heart. He doesn’t measure power by numbers but by obedience.
When one person prays, heaven listens; when a city prays, history
shifts.
Maybe your world feels like that 1857 New York — crumbling around the edges. You’ve tried to fix it, control it, rebuild it. But what if God isn’t waiting for your plan? What if He’s waiting for your prayer?
The
revival that reshaped a nation began with one person refusing to quit. It was prayer without applause, faith without spotlight — just a whisper that became a roar.
And that’s still how God works.
If revival could start with Jeremiah Lanphier, what might God start through
you? What would change if you prayed for your home, your city, your circle — every single day at noon? Heaven still responds to the sound of a single voice crying out.
Prayer:
Lord, make me bold enough to believe that one prayer can shift the atmosphere. Ignite a fire in me that won’t wait for
others to start. Let my faith be the spark that draws hearts back to You. Revive me — and through me, revive my world. Amen.
Have a great day and God bless!
