Hello ,
"You can't get blood out of a turnip!" That's a phrase that my dad used to say, and when I was little I always wondered what it meant. I'm beginning to grasp it more and more as I mature.
The phrase basically means that we cannot expect to get something specific out of an object or person that doesn't possess that "something specific" that we're looking for. My father usually used this phrase when speaking about his lack of finances to pay for something unexpected.
This particular phrase has spiritual ramifications that my father may not have been aware of! Check out this verse of scripture: Ephesians 2:4-5
"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)."
Notice the use of the phrase "dead in sins" used in the above scripture. Being "dead in
sins" might be like trying to get blood out of a turnip. When we're dead in sins, we cannot, no matter how hard we try in our strength, have the victory that we need in the spiritual realm.
Only Jesus can help us to have a heart that beats in synch with His!
Have a great day and God bless!
