Hello ,
Henry Ward Beecher was one of the great preachers of the 19th Century. An incredible orator, he often held crowds spellbound by his words. He was ill one weekend, so a substitute pastor walked up to
the pulpit as the worship service began. Seeing that Dr. Beecher would not be speaking that day, a number of people got up and headed for the door.
Then the substitute preacher said something that took their breath away. "All those who came to worship Dr. Beecher this morning may leave. All those who came to worship the Lord, may stay in their seats."
OUCH!
Everyone sat back down.
There's a great lesson in here for each of us. There can be a tendency to put people on the pedestals of our lives.
I've seen it over and over again throughout my life. Someone on television, or a
denominational "celebrity" shows up to speak and draws HUGE crowds, but when they leave, so does the audience.
Anytime we take our focus off of Jesus, and put it on another human being, the final outcome will be disappointing. Let's keep our eyes on the Only One Who can save us!
Have a great day and God bless!
