Hello ,
The New York Times published an article explaining large numbers like a million, billion, and trillion. The article was titled “Just how long is a trillion seconds?”
In a letter to the editor, Dorothy C. Morrell from Seattle explains a trillion in terms of time:
I asked myself, why not think of it in terms of seconds? A trillion seconds would have to be years, probably many years. I made a wild guess. As it turned out, I wasn't close. I found that 1,000 seconds ago was equal to almost 17 minutes. It would take almost 12 days for a million seconds to elapse and 31.7 years for a billion seconds.
Therefore, a trillion seconds would amount to no less than 31,709 years.
Think about that for a moment; every second that passes in our lives is important, cumulative, and precious. Every moment that passes becomes a part of eternity that
we can never get back.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet
there were none of them.
Psalm 139:16
Before you and I were even born, the God of Heaven knew that we would be. That makes each of us pretty important, and very
special. The passage of time doesn't hamper or challenge God with being Who He is, or with His knowledge of our becoming or being.
God knew when we would come into being, and He knows when we will draw our last breath. For some, this idea might be unsettling. For me, it brings great comfort. The One Who loves me most knows all about me (including how
long I will occupy planet earth), and is intimately interested in me. Wouldn't it make sense to know someone like that even better than I already do?
Have a great day and God bless!
