Hello ,
Have you ever had someone in your life who acted in a manner that did not show gratitude after you had done something really nice for them? How did it make you feel?
Were you angry that they didn't take the time to say thank-you; chagrined to think that
you put all that effort in and they didn't seem the least bit grateful?
I've struggled with those feelings too, but I'm also ashamed to admit that I have been on the other side as well. There have been times that I didn't properly thank someone for their kindness, or really show them that what they did for me really was important.
As I pondered all of this, I wondered to myself how God must feel when I show Him a heart that isn't thankful for the blessings that He pours out on me every day.
Check out this statement by
Jeff Jacoby of the Boston Globe: "In a sense, gratitude is an expression of modesty. In Hebrew, the word for gratitude - hoda'ah - is the same as the word for confession. To offer thanks is to confess dependence, to acknowledgment that others have the power to benefit you, to admit that your life is better because of their efforts."
These are powerful and profound thoughts, and if you're reading this early in the morning they may be a little on the heavy side. However, if you and I could internalize how thankful we should truly be for all of the good things in this life, I believe that life would take on a new luster everyday!
Have a great day and God bless!
