Your Open Word e-Devotional for September 11th, {{ subscriber.first_name | capitalize }}

Hello ,

If you were alive when the September 11, 2001 attacks took place in New York City, there's a pretty good chance that you recall exactly where you were on this day, 18 years ago.

I remember where I was when I heard the news, and I recall how stunned and shocked I was as the day unfolded. Since I was living in New York State at the time of the attacks, you can well imagine how close the entire situation felt to me and my family.

If there was one glaringly obvious "take-away" that occupied my thought process after that awful day, it was simply this; we never know what will happen to us (or to our families) on any given day.

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

Lamentations 3:22-23

You and I aren't guaranteed tomorrow. In fact, we aren't even promised another minute of time here on planet earth. I became personally more aware of this on May 5th, 2023 when I had the windowmaker heart attack that almost took my life.

Anything can happen, at any time, but as long as we stay connected to our Creator, we don't have to worry.

My brother-in-law, Michael Garrison passed away in 2018. He was one of the most Godly men I have ever met, and wrote the following:

“The greatest tragedy in life is not dying, but dying unprepared.”

Reading that simple quote seems to center me spiritually, and grounds me to the idea that having a relationship with my Creator is the greatest endeavor that I can ever aspire to.
