Hello ,
In a recent interview (September 2013), the Oscar-winning actor Jeff
Bridges was asked to identify his worst character defect.
Bridges said:
Not loving enough ... Not having enough compassion, empathy, wisdom. My wife and I have been married for 36 years. I'm deeply in love with her, but every once in a while we'll get into what I like to refer to as our
"deep, ancient battle." It's always very elusive and it's hard to find the real kernel of it, but basically it is about this: "You don't get it. You don't get what it is like to be me." Neither of us really understands what it's like to be that other person.*
It would seem that Mr. Bridges seems to struggle with
the same issues that plague even Christians. If left to our own devices, in our heart of hearts we are all stuck in the mucky mire of selfishness.
We don't merely need behavior modification when it comes to "self" being on the throne of our hearts...we need new spiritual hearts!
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of
your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:26
This is a heavenly work that must be done IN us, and NOT a work that we can bring about of ourselves. We can try, work more diligently, and struggle harder, but until God does a work in us that we can never do in ourselves, we will
continue traveling down the "me-first" road of life.
Lord, help me to see my utter need for Your divine work in my heart...today and everyday. In Jesus name, amen!
Have a great day and God bless!
