Hi ,
In all the years I’ve been doing medicine I’ve never met anyone who didn’t want a healthy, abundant life. They come to me for advice and for medicine to cure their ills and ease their aches and pains. Even the most despondent long for a better life.
Unfortunately, I’m continually amazed at the poor choices my patients make. I am also astounded by how unwilling they can be to make the necessary changes it will take to live the healthy life they claim to want. You’d think I was trying to steal their most precious possession when I tell them they need to give up smoking or alcohol, change their diet, or give up some other unhealthy habit.
However, just when I’m feeling the most frustrated with my patients I catch myself stuffing my face with a donut or skipping my morning walk and I realize I’m no better than anyone else. As Romans 3:23 reminds us, we “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”. That includes me.
The thing is, God wants so much more for us. Each day He offers us a choice. We can listen to that
thief, Satan, who comes only “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” or we can listen to Jesus who came so we “may have life, and that…more abundantly.” (John 10:10).
Who will you choose to follow today?
