Hello ,
"He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
"Pastor, sometimes I get so lonely that I wonder if God even cares about me, and what I'm going through."
I have heard this sentiment articulated to me (in a variety of ways) throughout my ministry, from so many people. People are lonely out there!
They put on brave faces, smile through their pain, and often act like nothing is wrong; but when no one is around, they feel incredibly lonely and isolated.
I must confess that I don't have all the
answers to the loneliness and depression that so many people feel; but I am of the opinion that (as Christians), we need to do what we can to help ease some of these lonely burdens that so many people are weighed down with.
Here are some ways that we can reach to others with the love of God:
- A quick telephone call can brighten someone's day, even if we can't stay on the phone for very long.
- A short text that says, "I just thought about you, paused and prayed for you. I hope that you're having a good day" ca bring a smile to someone's face.
- It's not done very much anymore, but some of the best "uplifting" that I've ever received came in the form of a card or letter from someone who showed they cared enough to take the time for it.
- A personal visit can absolutely MAKE someone's day in ways that nothing else can. I have had the opportunity to take a lonely friend to lunch (or breakfast) at a local
restaurant. It always made a difference in their countenance as they left, from eating together and having good conversation.
I don't want to "harp" on this subject too much in our daily e-devotionals, but I talk to so many lonely people in my profession, and the holidays are so especially painful for so many. It's a
special burden on my heart.
What is God calling you to do for Him, today?
Whatever it is, I pray that you (and the person that you reach out to),
will be blessed by whatever encounter you have with them.
Have a great day and God bless!
