Would you join me ? A personal note from Pastor Mike at the Open Word

Published: Fri, 07/08/16

Hello ,

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."  Matthew 24:12

I had to write you today...

I just had to!

My heart is aching, I'm frustrated, and pretty bewildered by what has transpired in the United States this week.  After the recent retaliation in Dallas, Texas, as five police officers were gunned down by snipers in retaliation for two individuals that were killed by law enforcement earlier in the week, I have to admit that I am trying hard to make sense of it all.

My heart goes out to the family members of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile (the two men who were killed by police officers earlier this week).  I am also heartbroken about the twelve officers that were shot in Dallas (those are the numbers that I have as of this writing).  Five of those officers that were shot have died, and I can only imagine how numb the families of these slain law enforcement officials must feel.

Please join me in prayer!

It dawned on me that (in, and of myself) there is little that I can do to bring value to this situation.  I don't have the proper words to apply here, and I can't help but get choked up at the thought of God's "creation" tearing each other apart because of the hatred that resides in their hearts.  I cannot say or do anything that feels like it will make a tangible difference...but I can pray!

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."  Matthew 18:20

Although we are miles apart from each other in a physical sense, I believe that God can still be with us as we lift up the families of these victims in our prayers together.  I would like to ask you to re-send this e-mail to as many of your contacts as possible, so that we can ALL be praying about this together.

I still believe that there is great power in approaching God's heavenly throne of mercy. God never wastes a tear that falls, or turns His back on a person who struggles.  Let's do what we can to ask God to bring comfort, strength, and peace into a situation that is still highly volatile and explosive right now.  Together, we can make a difference for God's kingdom through intercessory prayer.

"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."  John 13:34-35  (This is actually Jesus speaking in these two verses)

The world won't see Jesus in us by what political party we associate ourselves with, or by our many words of advice.  They will know we are Christians by the way we love one another!

Thank-you for listening, and for your consideration to join me in prayer!
