Your Open Word e-Devotional for March 10th

Hello ,

We live in such an amazing world of technological advancement. Take music for example; when I was a kid, we listened to AM radio, and we were excited when our favorite song came over the raspy airwaves.  It was what it was, and we didn't spend a moment of time thinking about what it was NOT.

These days, people can go to a service called Pandora and CHOOSE what they want to listen to. They can type in the artist, genre, or decade that they want to listen to...and Pandora obliges by playing music that's custom fit.  If one doesn't like what is being played, there's no reason to change the channel.  They merely need to "drop" the song, and another selection will be cued up for their listening pleasure.

It's a neat service, but I sometimes wonder if all these technical opportunities towards customization have spiritually handicapped people. When something from God's Word doesn't fit their lifestyle, or preferences in spiritual matters, many people just turn to another "brand" of spirituality...one the "fits" they way they see things.

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105

When we view the Word of God as something that consistently illuminates our lives, rather than a selective "flash-light" (or sorts), we come to recognize that the Bible was not written for our convenience, but rather for our growth.  Clicking the "flash-light" on and off when it suits us is spiritually dangerous business, and God has a better plan.

Have a great day and God bless!
